CanCODE School Visit
I was pleased to represent Minister Navdeep Bains at Holy Redeemer Elementary School in Kanata this week to announce the launch of CanCode, a new program that, over the next two years, will give 500,000 students from kindergarten to grade 12 the opportunity to learn the in-demand skills that will prepare them for future jobs. Great to see young students engaging in STEM fields with such enthusiasm! I can’t wait to see what they get up to in the future!

In the spirit of the 2018 Olympics in Pyeongchang, I had the pleasure of dropping the puck at a game this week on Parliament Hill with the Ottawa Girls Hockey Association & the Kanata Girls Hockey Association. What a game! Keep up the great playing, ladies!
All Seniors Care Games
This week, the 9th annual All Seniors Care Games took place in our community, with events like the Non-Competitive Hallway Walk and Roll. Just in time for the Olympics! I had the honour of joining in the Opening Ceremonies and presenting medals at the Closing Ceremonies. “Laughter is the Best Medicine” was the theme this year. Great to see our seniors enjoying themselves and competing with smiles on their faces!
Community Winter Carnivals
The Annual Fitzroy Harbour Winter Carnival is right around the corner! From February 8th to February 11th, I hope you will join me at the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre for activities like outdoor hockey, family skating, and trivia night.
The Kanata-Hazeldean Lions Club’s Winter Carnival falls on February 10th this year! Make your way down to 170 Castlefrank Rd for a pancake breakfast and free horse-drawn sleigh rides for the whole family. I look forward to seeing you there!
100th Birthday at Parliament
I had the absolute honour of hosting Isobel Gallipeau for lunch at Parliament to celebrate her 100th birthday. An extraordinary woman, Isobel was born in Glengarry County, Ontario in January 1918. I was gifted a beautiful book about Isobel’s fantastic life including some wonderful photos of her family and travels. Isobel was joined at lunch by her daughter Rose, granddaughter Julie, and great-granddaughter Hayley. 4 generations of brilliant women!
Ministers Mélanie Joly, Jody Wilson-Raybould, and Patty Hajdu also stopped by to wish Isobel all the best. Happy Birthday, Isobel!
