Around The Community: January 17 – 26

Small look at the events I was able to take part in around the community for the week of January 17- 26

Closing of Community Papers

As you are aware by now, two of our beloved Community Papers, the Kanata Kourier and the West Carleton Review, are no longer in print. These newspapers were an integral part of our communities, where we could read about our neighbours, our volunteers, and keep up to date with the many exciting events taking place in our communities. While we work toward restoring community newspapers in our Riding, I will continue to share these weekly updates with you all, posting them on my website every week.

Flu Clinic

It’s never too late to get your flu shot! Come get yours at the flu clinic that will be taking place on Saturday January 27th from 9:30am-1:30pm in the Community Room (formerly Black’s Photography) at the Hazeldean Mall.

Winter Carnivals

The Annual Fitzroy Harbour Winter Carnival is right around the corner! From February 8th to February 11th, come down to the Fitzroy Harbour Community Centre for activities like outdoor hockey, family skating, and trivia night.

The Kanata-Hazeldean Lions Club’s Winter Carnival falls on February 10th this year! Make your way down to 170 Castlefrank Rd for a pancake breakfast and free horse-drawn sleigh rides for the whole family. I look forward to seeing you there!

Family Day Skate

We are just a few weeks away from Family Day here in Kanata-Carleton. This year, why not join in on one of the many Family Day Skates taking place in our communities? Join myself and Councillor Marianne Wilkinson at the Mlacak Centre from 13:00 – 15:00 or head over to the Cavanagh Sensplex where Councillor Eli El-Chantiry will he hosting a Family Skate from 11:00 – 13:00. Happy skating!

Canada Summer Jobs – employers apply now!

The Canada Summer Jobs program provides funding for not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers, and small businesses with 50 or fewer employees to create summer job opportunities for students aged 15 to 30. The CSJ employer application period runs until February 2nd, 2018, so that students may be hired beginning in April 2018. For more information on CSJ, including the eligibility criteria and application guide, visit Canada.ca/Canada-summer-jobs, a Service Canada Office or call 1-800-935-5555.
