I was sad to hear of the loss of a Kanata legend. Bill Teron had a dream of a community of livable and sustainable neighbourhoods, which grew into the Kanata we know and love today. Bill was often affectionately referred to as the ‘Father of Kanata’ and we owe him a great debt for his vision and perseverance in creating the foundation for a great community. He never stopped working to help build a better world. My heartfelt sympathies to Jean and the whole family.
International Women’s Day
On March 8th, we celebrated International Women’s Day, a day to recognize the many women who inspire us, challenge us, & make a difference in our communities. I was happy to attend Councillor Marianne Wilkinson’s annual International Women’s Day Breakfast and thank her for her many years of service to our community! Marianne’s leadership has motivated us all to do better each and every day. I want to thank Councillor Allan Hubley and Mayor Jim Watson for hosting respective Women’s Day Celebrations! Great to see the women in our communities getting the recognition they deserve.
Thanks to CISCO Canada for having me at your #WomenInTech event to speak about leadership! And thank you to WiDS for having me at the Women in Data Science Memorial Scholarship Breakfast. I was honoured to be in the company of so many brilliant and accomplished women!
Another cause for celebration this month was the revealing of the new $10 bank note. Finance Minister Bill Morneau revealed the note, which features civil rights activist Viola Desmond – the first woman to feature on a Canadian bank note other than the Queen.
Need a hand to prepare your tax return? From March 5th to April 30th, I will be hosting FREE tax clinics at various locations in Kanata, Fitzroy Harbour, and Constance Bay!
